MTU Maintenance and Garuda Indonesia have entered into a three-year agreement for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of the airline’s GE90-115B engines, which power its fleet of eight Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Under the contract, engine maintenance activities will be carried out at MTU Maintenance’s facility in Hannover, leveraging the site’s extensive expertise in widebody engines to support fleet reliability, operational efficiency and engine availability. MTU Maintenance’s Singapore office will complement the program by providing leasing and asset management support as required.
Martin Friis-Petersen, Senior Vice President of MRO Programs at MTU Aero Engines, commented: “the contract with Garuda Indonesia further strengthens MTU Maintenance's presence in Asia-Pacific, a region where demand for dependable engine maintenance services continues to grow.” The history between the companies dates back over two decades, and MTU provides MRO services for CFM International engines to Citilink, a budget airline within the Garuda Indonesia group. The APAC region is the major driver of global commercial aviation and requires ready MRO services for operators such as Garuda Indonesia, including for widebody engines. We are happy to offer our network’s GE90 expertise to keep their operations running smoothly. Whether that is custom workscopes, in-house repair capabilities, leasing or digital solutions, we have it covered.”
Mukhtaris Aris, Director of Maintenance at Garuda Indonesia, said the partnership with MTU Maintenance underscores the airline’s unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability and operational performance.
“Ensuring the safety and operational readiness of our fleet, including our Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, remains a core priority, particularly as these aircraft play a critical role in our long-haul operations,” Aris said. “By leveraging MTU Maintenance’s extensive expertise in GE90 engine support, we are further strengthening fleet readiness and operational dependability, enabling us to continue delivering safe, reliable and comfortable travel experiences for our passengers.”
The GE90-110/115B has been a key part of MTU Maintenance’s MRO portfolio since 2010 and remains a cornerstone of its widebody engine business in Hannover. Over the years, the company has established itself as one of the leading independent providers of GE90 maintenance services. During the past three years, MTU Maintenance has consistently ranked among the top performers globally for GE90 shop visits, highlighting its strong market position, proven capabilities and deep expertise with the engine program.
